Changzhou Tian Ai Children Rehabilitation Center is a private non-profit organization that provides education services for children with special needs, including autism and learning disabilities. Founded in 2006, its current campus cover an area of 14,000 m2, with 200 students and 60 full-time teachers. It is the largest educational and rehabilitation institute for children with autism in Jiangsu Province.
For 12 years, Tian Ai has been committed to the mission of the school which is to enable every child with autism to have specialized education and to be the best school for special needs education. Tian Ai literally means “heavenly love” in Chinese, which guides the organization’s efforts to provide meaningful care to every child. It aims to build the best resource platform for education and rehabilitation of children with autism. Tian Ai’s services revolve around a three pronged model of Education, Rehabilitation, and Occupation, which ensures that each child is entitled to holistic education and development. Tian Ai bases its work on integrating medicine, education, and teaching in an inclusive manner according to the individualized needs of each child.
Tian Ai provides comprehensive education to children with autism, which includes preschool, kindergarten, nine years of compulsory education, and vocational education. Across all age groups, it also provides medical, educational, occupational, and social services. In 2014, Tian Ai took the lead in exploring vocational education for children with autism and founded the Tian Xi Er Bakery, which provides vocational training and employment to young people with autism. Tian Ai’s service model for pre-education for children with autism has become a national model, beginning with early intervention from 0 to 3 years and continuing with kindergarten integration from 3- to 6 years. Tian Ai is a leading nonprofit in the field of effective education for children with autism. It was awarded a social organization grade of 5A, the highest possible in China. It was also named a Grade 3 designated rehabilitation organization for autistic children in Jiangsu and a provincial training center for teachers working with children with autism.
